The high school musicians from Cascade performed at the District Music Festival April 16-17 in Great Falls. There were 13 solos or ensembles that performed and all did very well. Those that earned a "I" (Superior) qualified to go on to the State Music Festival on May 1-2 in Missoula.

A big THANK YOU goes to Jessica Nelson for being our wonderful accompanist! Thank you also to the parents who were there supporting us.

All of our student musicians earned either a "I" or "II" rating (on a scale of "V" - see below). After they performed their music the adjudicators worked with the students and our young musicians learned a lot from this experience. The Concert Band earned Excellent (II) ratings in the prepared music and Superior (I) in the sight reading evaluation. The Concert Choir also earned Excellent (II) ratings on the prepared music. Choirs all across Montana tried out a new sight reading method and since it was experimental no ratings were given.  Mr. Skogley is very proud of the performances of the Band and Choir (large groups do not advance to the State Music Festival regardless of their ratings) as well as our soloists and ensemble members. What a great bunch of kids to teach!

The ratings used at Music Festivals are:

I
A superior performance - Outstanding in nearly every detail

II
An excellent performance -
Minor defects

III
A good performance - lacking finesse and/or interpretation

IV
A fair performance -
basic weaknesses

V
A poor performance - unsatisfactory
