Congrats to our Regional Finalists

Congratulations to Seniors Ty Tweten and Kendra Anderson, and Juniors Alexis Marko and Jaimee Daniels. Their silent film projects have been selected as regional finalists in the International Youth Silent Film Festival sponsored by the Yellowstone Writing Project and Montana State University.  Over 50 films from  Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and North Dakota were submitted.  Students prepared their videos in the media class taught by Mrs. Nancy McGonigal and Ms. McKenna Quinn.  Ms. Quinn, a current student teacher from MSU, brought the project idea from Bozeman and students in the class worked on scripting, filming, editing and publishing their projects in class. Students will attend the regional film viewing and awards ceremony in Bozeman on April 8th.  If chosen in the top three, they have the chance to take their film to Portland, Oregon for the Global Festival.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Suess!

Friday, March 1st is Dr. Seuss' birthday and all elementary classes will be celebrating in the new gym at 2:45pm. We will be drawing names for book giveaways and students may dress up as a Dr. Seuss character. During the celebration, older students will partner up with younger students to read. If you have a Dr. Seuss book at home please bring it to school that day, but don't forget to put your name in the book just in case it gets misplaced. Thank you to the PTA for providing treats for all the students!

Visitors To School

A reminder to all visitors that ID is required when visiting our school. The safety of our students is our highest priority. The Raptor Visitor Management system provides a consistent way to aid in keeping away people who may present a danger to our students and has been successful in identifying registered offenders. Per District policy, all visitors to the school must be scanned into the system at least annually and obtain a visitor badge. The Cascade School District began using the Raptor Visitor Management System in 2016 to build on the district’s program of campus safety for students and faculty. Part of keeping students and faculty safe is knowing who is in our building at all times and the Raptor system has successfully allowed us to do that. The Raptor system allows us to track visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our schools and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff. The Cascade School District has been recognized by the Cascade County Sheriff’s Department as a proactive example of providing excellent school safety measures, and those measures touted to other districts when conducting school safety trainings.Upon entering our school building, visitors are asked to present a valid state issued ID, to be scanned into the system. The Raptor system checks to ensure that registered sexual offenders are not entering our buildings. It is important to note that the Raptor system only scans the visitor's name, date of birth and photo for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. Additional visitor data from the driver's license is not gathered nor is the system connected to any other system such as the Department of Motor Vehicles. Therefore any other information on the ID is not scanned by the system and is not accessible to any of the users. Once entry is approved, Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of his/her visit.A visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork. In the event that a person does not have identification, he/she can still be given access to the building, but will be escorted by a school staff member. If you are interested in learning more about the Raptor visitor management system, please visit the Raptor Technologies website (www.raptortech.com). Thank you for your understanding and continued support of enhancing school safety protocols in our district.
